    How to Use Oracle Mandalas

Many may wonder how to use oracle mandalas and I realised that this was something I had never spoken about. This post will shed some light as to how to use your Oracle Mandalas for better self-connection.

    What Are Oracle Mandalas?

    Let’s start here shall we!

Mandala is a Sanskrit word which means “circle” or “discoid object and it is a geometric design that holds symbolism. It’s what I deem as sacred in many cultures, such as Hindu and Buddhist cultures. In places like China, Japan and Tibet, it is said that a Mandala represents different aspects of the universe and that they can be used as tools in meditation or prayer.

The Mandalas that I draw could be considered as healing mandalas as they are drawn intuitively. They are meant to deliver guidance, insight, calm and understanding into yourself.

    How to Use Oracle Mandalas

How to use Oracle Mandalas can be broken down into these three methods:

    • Colouring them in.
    • Placing them in your sacred space or on your desk as a reminder.
    • Using them in crystal grids.

For many of my mandalas, I also suggest crystals that would complement it. If you have them in your collection, you can use them with any of the above-mentioned methods too. Alternatively, you can use any crystal that speaks to YOU when you look at the mandala. Don’t forget to energetically clear or cleanse it before use. Once you have your chosen stone/s, meditate with it for 10-15 minutes. HibiscusMoon offers a great guide for how to meditate with crystals.

For each of the above-mentioned methods, it can be complemented with a good meditation. Meditation helps ground you and bring you back to the present moment, helping you to set the tone for whichever method you’d like to use.

    Coloring in

"How to use Oracle Mandalas: Coloring In" depicts a beautiful mandala titled Blooming, coloured in with purple, pink, green and orange colours.

Colouring in is the most simplest method, and maybe the most fun!

After your meditation and with your printed copy of the mandala, you simply begin to color. You can use any colors you wish so don’t overthink it. Just color! Of course, you can be very intentional and use similar shades of the suggested crystal or colors associated with a Chakra for the Chakra Mandalas.

Once you’re done, simply sit back and witness. Notice if there was anything that comes up for you while you were coloring or when you’re done. Journal about that as well as how the mandala made or makes you feel.

If you notice that you used very similar shades, look up what those colours can mean.

    Placing them in your Space

"How to use Oracle Mandalas: Placing them in your Space" depicts a beautiful mandala titled Listen on a desk with an orgone Pyramid. The mandala has been coloured in with green, blue , red and yellow colours.
Oracle Mandala Listen placed on the desk for constant reminder to listen.

You don’t need to print an A4 copy of the mandala, you can print it smaller and then place it in your sacred space or upon your altar. This is a beautiful way to keep the message of the Mandala with you to remind you of what you’re working on or calling in.

Also, it’s something pretty that you can add to your space to complement the energy of the space. It doesn’t need to be “woo-woo”.

You can even spend some time on a regular basis to meditate with the Mandala. After meditation, simply witness and notice what the Mandala has to share with you. Journal about that.

    Crystal Grids

"How to use Oracle Mandalas: Crystal Grids" depicts a beautiful crystal grid upon the Ocean Flow Mandala using Clear Quartz Points and a tumbled piece of Larimar.
A Crystal Grid made on top of Oracle Mandala Ocean Flow using Clear Quartz Points and tumbled Larimar,

Another way to use these mandalas is to create a crystal grid with the printed mandala.

Crystal Grids combine sacred geometry like a mandala with the amplifying and complementary energies of crystals to send your intention to the Universe for manifestation or healing.

A crystal grid can be as intricate or as simple as you’d like. It can also be more intuitive where you place and use crystals chosen intuitively, or you can give it more structure and research your crystals. Your imagination is your limit.

My Favourite way to Use Oracle Mandalas

My favourite way to use my own mandalas is to draw them. Being able to take the time to connect with a crystal to draw its energy like for the Crystal Mandalas, or to allow the process to flow and draw something with love, is one awesome experience.

I store all of the digital copies of my Mandalas and there are often times when I’ll page through those images and find one that speaks to my heart. Sometimes this happens when I page through my sketchbook too. Even I need a good wink from the Universe at times 😉

My method of use is the process and you can read more about how I draw my mandalas here, but I have been known to use of the above-mentioned methods too.

Your imagination is the limit for how to use oracle mandalas and there is no right or wrong way. However, there is a right way for you so have fun with it!

  • How I draw my Oracle Mandalas

How I draw my Oracle Mandalas

How I draw my Oracle Mandalas – this is something that many people wonder about when they see my mandalas. Many know I work with crystals and that I draw my mandalas using crystals but they don’t know how I combine them to create magic. I share a bit of my process.

    Before I Begin to Draw

Before I begin to draw, I meditate. Meditation is the starting point of everything for me. Without the meditation, it’s like running a marathon without shoes on.

If I know what stone is going to support the drawing, I’ll meditate with it to get an idea of what to draw. Sometimes though, I don’t know what stone to use and after meditation I’ll just begin to draw. Once I begin, I get an inner knowing of what stone is going to complement the drawing. I’ll then grab that stone and work with it for the rest of the drawing. I trust my intuition and it’s never led me astray with my crystal choices.

Meditation allows me to tap into the crystal and allows me to let the crystal show me what to draw. Of course intention comes into play here too, as it always does.

During meditation, sometimes I get an idea of some detail to the mandala, such as shapes and swirls. Other times, it may be actual images, like with the Rose Quartz Mandala, I saw softness. Images such as a feather, soft touches of fingers brushing the skin, kisses, as well as a flower opening and closing. When it’s images like this, it can be harder to interpret what the stone is telling me, I’m not going to lie.

How I draw my Oracle Mandalas - the Process

    Drawing an Oracle Mandala

After meditation, I get out my sketchbook and pencils to begin drawing. To give you a glimpse into my tools:

    • My Sketchbook is the A4 Dala Visual Diary bought on Takealot but I also have/use the A5 one. I love these because they are hardcover and spiral bound.
    • Croxley Create 11pc Mathematical Instruments tin is what I use to create the base of my mandalas with the compass and protractor. I bought mine from Checkers but I’ve linked to the Takealot product if you need to SEE it.

Once I put pencil to paper, I let the pencil guide me and I don’t usually think too hard about it. I go with what I saw in meditation and simply draw.

What is unique for me, is that because I let my intuition and the crystal guide me, often I can feel when the “ink runs dry” . When this happens, I cannot draw anymore. It’s really strange to experience, but my mind goes blank and it’s like there’s nothing there anymore. I liken this a lot to free association writing where you just write, except here I’m drawing. Even when I want to continue drawing, I simply can’t. Times when I have pushed through, I end up changing those elements because they don’t feel right when I return to the drawing.

Once I’ve completed the mandala sketch, I ink it, scan it and begin the digital process.

Why I Love Drawing Oracle Mandalas and using Crystals

I’m notoriously always busy and rarely sit still. Drawing allows me to be without my busy cage and routines. It allows me to simply be and flow, with no real rules except the lines I draw as my base of the Mandala.

Crystals talk to us in different ways. For me, they allow me to draw them and their energy, like with my Crystal Mandalas. Alternatively, they allow me to complement them with the affirmation and my Mandala such as with my Oracle Mandalas. Crystals, the pen and the paper are my tools; I channel the action with drawing.

Drawing fills my cup and as I’ve grown on my journey, I realise that it’s important for me to take time to draw. It brings me joy to draw. Also, it makes me happy that people can find guidance and clarity when they use my Mandalas (read more on how to use Oracle Mandalas here).

How I draw my oracle mandalas relies on getting quiet, trusting my intuition and taking the time to draw. It’s a simple method that anyone can do because crystals can support you with whatever you decide to do. Try it.

  • How to Use Clear Quartz – a Crystal Profile

How to Use Clear Quartz – a Crystal Profile

How to Use Clear Quartz – a crystal profile dedicated to one of my favourite crystals because it is a jack of all trades (and master of none).

    Why I love this Crystal

Through the chaotic times, or the times where I felt so utterly conflicted, I always come back to Clear Quartz. I cannot tell you how many of these times there were but this crystal has always been such a dependable companion (and BFF).

I liken this crystal to the number one comfort food you love so much which instantly puts a smile on your face. That is what this crystal is to me.

    Clear Quartz Properties

Clear Quartz looks like such a simple stone. Sometimes it’s clear, sometimes it’s more translucent and other times it’s more opaque and ghostlike.

With its simplistic appearance, it reminds you that magic can be found in the simplest of items, times and your simple self. You don’t need to be a miracle worker, guru or some magician. You’re magic just as you are.

Clear Quartz is the jack of all trades and so yes, it’s also a master of none. However, I do believe that your own piece can be a master of something in your own life. For instance, I have a piece of Clear Quartz which always reminds me of the light in me.

Some other cool things about this crystal which you may not know:

    • Known for it’s amplification properties so it works well with other crystals if you wanted to amp up their vibes. This works especially well for crystal grids.
    • It’s a good cleanser especially of distractions in meditation (or in general.)
    • Enhances psychic abilities.
    • Aids concentration.
    • Can boost and/or lift your mood.
    • Helps to relieve negativity too. This is not spoken about enough.

    How to Use Clear Quartz

I suppose I’m a fan of Jack here because Clear Quartz is just whatever I need. It’s so versatile and here are some of my favorite ways to use this crystal:

    • To lift your spirits and boost your mood, meditate with a Clear Quartz point with the point pointing UPWARDS toward the sky. (This is an affiliate link so if you click and buy, I earn a little bit too.)
    • If you find yourself overthinking and worrying, hold a Clear Quartz point pointing downward and focus on your breath for a few moments. I find this helps calm your head a little bit. You can’t always control everything outside of yourself, but you can control your reaction.
    • When you’re feeling indecisive, meditate with this crystal and hold the intention to receive clarity. Don’t force it and have the faith that you’ll get clear.
    • When you’re feeling doubtful of yourself, carry a piece with you to always remind you of the light inside of yourself.

How to use Clear Quartz and any way you work with crystals should not be a complicated matter. It is a simple, user-friendly stone and however you choose to use it, simple or more intricate, it can work for you.

  • How Long do Crystals Take to Work?

How Long do Crystals Take to Work?

“How long do crystals take to work?” – A lot of people wonder this.

How Long to Crystals Take to Work?

Truthfully, I cannot give you an answer, even though I really want to, but we are all different. That’s why there is no accurate time-frame for this. Some people can use a crystal today and next week begin to see subtle changes. Other people can use a crystal and only see shifts months or years from now. We are all different and there is no timeline that anyone can give you as to when you’ll see changes on your healing journey.

From my experience, it’s often REALLY small steps and things which you NEVER even notice until you look back. It took me a good few years before I noticed those small things in my own life.

Healing is a JOURNEY and I shall keep shouting this until I’m dead because it’s true. It’s a journey. Healing will NEVER be an overnight cure or quick fix. When you go for surgery, are you recuperated entirely the next day? No. Healing our patterns, shadows, soul work and more is exactly the same. Treat it so.

Stop rushing yourself and your journey. Take your time and take time to being present on your journey.

It’s not always about the crystals you use, because technically you don’t need to use crystals. It’s also about being consistent and showing up for yourself. You’ve got to take of your time to progress on your journey in order to see shifts over time when you look back.

So how long do crystals take to work? It depends but don’t rush.

  • Crystal Combinations

    Crystal Combinations

Crystal Combinations – something everyone seems to be wondering about. If you’re here and you haven’t read my first post about what crystals don’t work together, start here at Powerful Crystal Combinations before continuing.

    Crystal Combinations

Crystal Combinations – What’s the Fuss?

When you get into crystals you want to wear them all because you want to fix so many facets and balance so many areas. Please don’t try to “fix” yourself in one go in one day. Healing is a PROCESS, not an overnight cure. Work on 1 or 2 areas and proceed from there. You’ll be amazed how shifts in something small, like being more compassionate and loving toward yourself, can cause ripples in other areas.

Now when you want to wear all the crystals, you start wondering if it’s the right combo. Folks I cannot tell you what’s right or wrong for you, because I’m not you. You are you. I can offer guidance.

All crystals can work together but I’m going to keep prompting you to go back to your intentions: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH YOUR STONES?

    Crystal Combinations and Intentions

If you’re working with more than 1 stone, look at what you want to achieve with them. What’s your goal? Is each stone for something different in your life, e.g. A stone for love, a stone for protection? Or is all the stones for one thing, e.g. 3 stones for protection?

Example 1: Each Crystal for Something Different:

Say you have 3 stones: Rose Quartz, Black Tourmaline and Citrine, and you’ve chosen them for love, protection and confidence. Then there’s your intentions already in your choices and you just need to fine tune it to yourself: I use this Rose Quartz to encourage love in my life first from inside toward myself, I use this Black Tourmaline for protection and guidance on where negativity is draining me, I use this Citrine to remind me of my light and to not be ashamed to share it.

Example 2: Combo of Crystals for One Thing:

Say you have 3 stones: Black Tourmaline, Labradorite and Black Obsidian, and you’ve chosen them for one “job” of protection. This is where I call upon the Recipe. When you cook, in order to make one dish, you need various ingredients, each bringing a different flavour or enhancement to the dish you’re making. Crystal Combinations for one job is like this. Your dish in this example is protection and your ingredients are 3 crystals needed to make the dish. Think of how your chosen crystals work toward the dish/main intention?

In the example I could use Black Tourmaline to transmute negative vibrations, Labradorite to deflect negativity others wish upon me so I can more easily see what’s mine vs what isn’t and Black Obsidian to help me see my own shadow and negativity for healing. Each one has its own job for the main intention (protection): I want to transmute negative vibes, I want to deflect what’s not mine so I can begin to get in touch with my own shit and I want to be able to recognise my own shit for healing.

    Crystal Combinations Conclusion

You can use any crystals you’re drawn to, in any combination you please but without your intention, you are going nowhere. Look at what you desire, what you want to achieve and use your crystals to help you reach those goals.

In continuing with the above recipe, you’re the main ingredient and crystals (or anything else) are the spices for flavour and enhancement. You’re the main ingredient folks. YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your energy, your goals and intentions is what gets the boiler cooling or cooking.

  • Crystals for Protection from Negativity

    Crystals for Protection from Negativity

I’ve wanted to talk about this for ages so my top picks for crystals for protection from negativity is LONG overdue! We all engage in negative behaviors and environments that it is well worth discussing how to protect ourselves from it.

    Crystals for Protection from Negativity

Top Crystals for Protection from Negativity

My top crystals for protection from negativity include from middle left:

    • Black Kyanite because it is like a broom. It sweeps clean and helps let go of lower vibes.
    • Black Tourmaline as it transmutes lower vibes to higher vibes.
    • Selenite purifies and works fantastically with Black Tourmaline to keep your vibration cleaner.
    • Labradorite because it works like a shield and deflects. This is actually my personal favorite crystal for protection when I go out.

One I didn’t mention above is Rutilated Smokey Quartz.
Not one really recommended for energetic protection but because of the Rutile, it really adds that touch of gold and divine light to help negative vibes become more positive. It works a lot like Black Tourmaline and Selenite with the Rutile needles catching the gunk and Smokey Quartz then clearing and transmuting it.

    How Can Crystals Protect Us?

Crystals will never take your negativity away for you. Crystals don’t work that way and they cannot do something you’re quite capable of. Never forget your power!

Crystals can support you while you see patterns and remove yourself from negative or lower vibrational situations. What do I mean by this? Well, look at the following

    • Do you engage in gossip? How do you feel afterwards?
    • Have you started hanging out with people who drain you?
    • Do you not clear your energy or space after emotional upset or fight with a loved one? Do you clear your space at all even after challenging/emotional meditations?

Crystals can help on an energetic level but the power will always be with YOU!

Sometimes we keep ourselves in negative circles because we don’t remember that we have the power to remove ourselves or say no. Often, we just need a reminder that we’re allowed to choose differently, not engage, respond differently and take responsibility for our own energy + positivity. That’s where crystals can support.

STOP GIVING YOUR POWER AWAY!!!! One step at a time. Start small. You don’t have to ghost everyone tomorrow, but begin taking responsibility for yourself, your energy and the spaces you occupy.

How to Use Crystals for Protection

In my IGTV video I talk about crystals for protection and how we can use them to protect our energy in the morning as well as clear our energy in the evening.

  • Crystals for Family Relationships

    Crystals for Family Relationships

We recently celebrated Family Day in South Africa and that seemed like the perfect excuse to pick our crystals for family relationships. For many of us, we are in isolation with some of our family members and things can get tense at time. Here are my favourites and top pics for this time:

    • Rose Quartz for Love of course but also for Patience. We all have bad days and now we are right there with our family when they experience it. Chances are high that they may lash out at us and visa versa. Rose Quartz helps you to see that it may not be about you at all. It also helps you to invoke your inner gentle God or Goddess.
    • Green Fluorite for Harmony. Harmony may not always be possible but Green Fluorite helps us to not get too stuck when things are tense.
    • Blue Calcite for calm Communication. We still want to be able to talk and for many of us, we’ve spent so much time away from home that we haven’t always been talking to each other. Blue Calcite brings that calm and eases the communication.
    Crystals for Family Relationships

What to do with these Crystals for Family Relationships to encourage love, patience, harmony and calm?

Keep them in your family room or any room where you spend a lot of time together. Make them the centerpiece of the family room so as to keep emitting those vibrations where and when needed. Lastly, don’t forget to clear them regularly, especially after tenseness or upsets in the family.

What’s your favourite crystals for family relationships and what do you keep in your family space?
