Rebecca Campbell Light is the New Black Book Review:
How many times did I start and restart this book. If I admit the amount, you’ll laugh. One recent weekend, I spent the weekend doing fuckall except reading this book and it was probably the right time for me. I was feeling probably more angry than “normal”, and it turns out that is great motivation to finish a book. This book helped me question myself, my relationships, my job, my passions and my family in a good way. I’m sure if I read this book in 1, 5 or 10 years time, I will learn something new. Is it cheeky to say that it’s a timeless book?
So What is it About:
This is a book that is “a guide to answering your soul’s callings and working your light”. Yeah that’s the subtitle but that is literally what this book is about.
Rebecca shares her story which is incredibly relatable as a lightworker, empath and woman. I’m so sure that SO many women will be able to relate to Rebecca and fall in love with her. She helps you with tools and questions that help you to reconnect with yourself AND ask yourself some pretty challenging questions that you’ve never even thought to ask before. For example: why do you think you chose your parents?
In short: it’s fucking brilliant.
What I loved the MOST:
Wow! I loved so much about this book, but I think what I loved the most was the questions at the end of most chapters. Those REALLY got me thinking about almost everything within and around me. It was questions I had never really thought to ask myself. They were questions I didn’t even realise needed to be asked AND answered.
She also includes little prayers and affirmations in this book which really do light you up and make you feel good.
Favorite Quote:
I don’t even know how to nail down ONE quote from this book because I saved SO many. So much of what Rebecca writes speaks to and motivates me!
Two quotes stand out to me and I shall share them with you:
Don’t do it for a reason or end goal, do it because you love doing it. Follow it without knowing where it will lead.

The thing with you Rebecca is that you are waiting for some kind of approval and permission to share your message. You’re waiting to be invited to some invisible table, to some imaginary club. There is no table, there is no club. The only approval you need to seek is your own. Don’t assume your message isn’t relevant until someone else says it is. Don’t assume your message isn’t relevant until someone else deems it to be. It is relevant. It needs to be told. Stop holding yourself back.

I know that if you read my blog, you will probably find meaning within these two quotes.
I know you will feel like you’ve been waiting for approval or permission before stepping up. And maybe it’s YOU who needs to give yourself permission?
I know you may feel like you’re lost and you don’t know what your purpose is… just like I do almost ALL the time. We aren’t meant to know, maybe because it’s bigger than we realise or imagine. I know it’s hard to just do what lights you up daily but listen to your gut, keep your boundaries strong and do it!
